95 Point Chateauneuf …In Paso Robles!

Justin Smith, owner/winemaker at Saxum Vineyards in Paso Robles, put this little-known growing area in central California on the map with Wine Spectator’s Top Wine of the Year for 2010 with his 98-point 2007 Saxum Red James Berry Vineyard. During this time, he was also starting a project for his friends Bill and Liz Armstrong who had bought a historic vineyard once owned by the philanthropist and musician, Ignacy Jan Paderewski (one of the early pioneers in Paso Robles, a site that was dedicated to Zinfandel in the early 1900s). Epoch’s 2010 Veracity (only 588 cases produced) is a juicy, layered Grenache-based GSM grown on the slopes of this age-old limestone-studded vineyard. Justin thinks the micro-climate is slightly warmer than his James Berry vineyard, and you can feel the intensity this wine exudes. It is also the star of the vintage for what the Wine Advocate says is “one of the up and coming estates in Paso Robles.” An Epic Epoch not to be missed!
