How much do we love New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc? I can’t count the ways especially in 2010. The kiwis rediscovered/reinvented/elevated, what is the right word for what they did to Sauv Blanc? In any case it’s Number Two no longer, thanks to New Zealand. The cool climate and marine influence on all sides makes Sauv Banc there crisp, minerally and freshly aromatic. Hafta admit that the character shines at all price ranges. I can’t think of better bottles under $10 to drop in the ice bucket than Brancott, The Crossing or Nobilo. Top names like Villa Maria and or my new favorite, Distant Lands, reflect the classic combination of acidity and big flavors. At the very top Cloudy Bay remains the world-beater, like a gift basket of citrus and peaches in perfect focus. You’re gonna want that.
